I put off Facebook as long as I could!!!

Ah Facebook! What do I think? I agree with Betty White -- it's a great time waster. But I think it could be fun to poke around in and find some old friends.

I have a complex today as I have 0 friends.

Do I have concerns about social networking? Absolutely! What ever happened to visiting your friends in person? Or picking up the phone? Today, people seem to live by their computers and handheld devices. We are entering an anti-social society....I am so glad that I cannot see into the future.

Will I continue to use Facebook? Oh yeah! Despite my concerns, all my friends are on--they just don't know that I am. We actually miss social invites because we aren't on facebook.

  1. I know what you mean about concerns over our seemingly 'anti-social' society. For myself, I try to combine the various means of communication to stay in touch with friends. For example, it was via Facebook that I noticed it was a friend's birthday (I had forgotten), so I gave her a call. As you suggest, many are now using Facebook as a means of organizing social activities where friends do meet in person. I guess the trick is to use them as complementary tools, instead of as exclusive or competing methods.

As for your complex, I'm sure you'll have numerous friends in no time! Try searching for Ramona Quimby--I bet you'll recognize her profile picture and I'm sure she'd be honoured to be your friend!

  2. I would! I would! Pick me! Pick me!

As for being anti social, to some degree I agree. But then, I perhaps would never have had some of the conversations I've had with the 93 students of Betty Blogger if NOT for social networking, right? Here we are chatting away... And if you see this, maybe sometime soon we'll be "friends"!

The Internet can be social... But in a very different way. Not to replace face-to-face interaction, but to add to it!
